Sur (Surabhi Naik) is a poet and designer.

Her poetry explores the beauty and possibility within hybrid multimedia poetic formats. In her community practice, she is interested in creating playgrounds for connection and expression.

Sur works with organizations who share her mission to build capacity for play, hope and imagination in their communities. One such co-conspirator is Culture Push, New York City where she is currently the Publications Director.

She is interested in civic questions like — what does it mean to belong? how do we inspire each other? how do we put things together? could we lie down here in this grass? Her sensibilities are shaped by her lived experiences with geography, immigration, caste, and gender, as well as her pursuit of formal education which has revolved around world-building using image+language.

She earned her MA in Media Studies from The New School/Parsons in New York City where her studies focused on transmedia storytelling and poetics. She also holds an MA English from IGNOU India, and originally trained as an Architect (B.Arch).

Born and raised by the konkan coast in Karwar, India, she currently resides in Toronto/Tkaronto.

She is currently tending to her internet presence after a long gap, and a fuller version of this website is being fleshed out. In the meantime, if you want to know what she's thinking about these days — you'll find it on her are.na. She welcomes email at studio@sur.world
